Hello! I’m Risa and I’m currently a postdoctoral research associate in the social and behavioral sciences. I love witchy things and video games, I hate academia, and I’m a cancer ใ(ใปใป)ใ

Welcome!
This is a site about the (often hidden) bad and ugly parts of academia and grad school – the ones academics, researchers, and universities don’t want you to know or talk about. But it’s also a space to talk about things I love and to talk about certain hobbies, like video games, that are seen as incompatible with academia. Given my experiences, I’m incredibly biased and have generally unfavorable views of many/most aspects of academia.
I decided to do this in a moment of total frustration and regret over taking, or maybe rushing into, a postdoc position. While many of the things I talk about here are systemic and true for many postdocs, my experience is my own, and I don’t claim to speak for anyone else. Because these are my experiences, I also talk about where I went to school and where I’m working, which is why I won’t divulge much more information about myself than what you see to the left (which, admittedly is a lot already).
Things I like
Dogs, Bats, Corvids
Video Games, Arts, Crafting
Tarot, Astrology, Spooky Things
Science, Equity, Bodily Autonomy
